As with any business strategy, it is important that you set goals for your social media marketing strategy and that you monitor your progress in achieving those goals. It is admittedly harder to track exactly how many sales your efforts with social media are actually bringing in. That being said, social media marketing remains a powerful tool for your inbound marketing strategy, and there are metrics that can help you to make the most of it. Social media analytics are how you determine the success of your marketing efforts. How you use them depends on where you stand with social media.
If You Are Just Starting Out
If you haven’t established your company’s social media presence yet you should start your marketing efforts by simply increasing your total amount of followers. You need to get the word out with your brand, so look at how many new followers you are bringing in. Use the Brand Volume metric to see how rapidly you are bringing in these new followers. Once you have a strong following you can focus on making conversions.
If You Have Been in the Game Awhile
For businesses that have been using social media for some time now you will be more focused on metrics that reflect how many potential leads are following a link back to one of your other online channels (like Social Click-Through Rate). This is how you determine how effective your marketing efforts are in creating conversions. You should also look at how much your followers are interacting with your brand on social media. The more they interact with your brand the more of a relationship you are building with them.
No matter what point you are in, you should be using social media analytics to learn about your customers. What types of content moves the needle up? What sort of posts do they seem to respond the most to? When you are using analytics, don’t just look at the number, look at the “why?”
